'Freyja' Benateau 40.1 Sydney to Melbourne November 2024
Sydney to Melbourne November 2024...
Peter and Tania decided on taking delivery of Freyja after waiting nearly 2 years for delivery after signing the contract, that they would take advantage of the beautiful cruising grounds of Pittwater before heading hoe to Melbourne. During that time they met Tom and when the discussion went to obtaining help for the delivery, Tom recommended Special Delivery as his preferred crew and told Peter of his previous experience 6 years ago with us and that he was about to engage us again to take his new boat to Adelaide.
So after booking us for a couple of months time, Peter and Tania continued their most enjoyable time but also got the boat ready for sea with my guidance and suggestions. The appointed date came and Murray and I flew down and was greeted by Peter at the airport. We went to the boat checked it over and then went shopping for provisions. Back on board unpacking and preparing for departure and found no electronics! A call to the electricians and they came straight away and after a short time found the dry joint and ran a new cable to supply the required power. All good, weather pretty good and 1630 departure. That night was forecast to be on the nose and we expected it to maybe be a bit uncomfortable and it was so called into Sydney (1900) and dropped the mooring line at 0500 and on our way in much nicer conditions.
A very fast run down the coast often doing 8's and 9's with about 2.5 kt of current so no stopping and straight to Eden where we stopped mid afternoon again to let a front blow through and at midnight conditions again gentle enough to continue on. Then straight through to the Rip (Pt Phillip bay heads) and either 3 hours wait till slack water or assess and go. With another front looming, option 2. Water was flat but current racing against us so only making 2-3kts but eventually got through and safely to Blairgowrie and tied up about an hour before the next southerly hit. Timing couldn't have been better.
It was a great trip one of the best. Great boat, weather behaved mostly but made a great new friend in Peter who was excellent company, was so keen to learn, very entertaining and interesting to talk to and made the best pancakes! With Murray on board as well, a great trip.
